  植樹節(jié)簡介(Introduction to Tree Planting Day):

  Arbor Day / Planting Trees Day

  Tree-planting date

  You may have heard of Arbor Day at school.

  Arbor Day is one day in the year that prevents

  deforestation, celebrates trees and promotes planting.

  In different countries, Planting Trees Days are on different days.

  Like in India, Planting Trees Day is on July 1.

  In China, Arbor Day is on March 12.

  Spring is the prime time for planting trees.

  China Arbor Day is set on March 12 every year, is China to stimulate people love forest, afforestation enthusiasm, promote afforestation, protect the ecological environment of human survival, through legislation to determine the festival. In 1915, China designated Tomb-sweeping Day as Arbor Day, which was first proposed by Lin Daoyang and others. In 1928, the day was changed to March 12, when Sun Yat-sen died, to commemorate the revolutionary pioneer's wish to plant trees. This setting is still used by the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

  植樹節(jié)的由來(The origin of Arbor Day):

  Sun Yat-sen was the first person to realize the significance of forests and advocate afforestation in modern Chinese history. After the revolution of 1911, the Republic of China 4 years (1915), under the initiative of Sun Yat-sen, by the Minister of Agriculture and Commerce Zhou Ziqi was quasi president, to the annual Tomb-sweeping Day for Arbor Day.

  After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in February 1979, at the sixth meeting of the Standing Committee of the fifth National People's Congress, the director of the General Administration of Forestry Luo Yuchuan proposed to review the "Forest Law (draft)" and "decided to take March 12 as Arbor Day" to explain, the General Assembly passed.

  植樹節(jié)起源(Origin of Arbor Day):

  The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902), a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career, Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.

  Morton felt that Nebraska's landscape and economy would benefit from the wide-scale planting of trees. He set an example himself planting orchards, shade trees and wind breaks on his own farm and he urged his neighbours to follow suit. Morton's real opportunity, though, arrived when he became a member of Nebraska's state board of agriculture. He proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing awareness of the importance of trees. Nebraska's first Arbor Day was an amazing success. More than one million trees were planted. A second Arbor Day took place in 1884 and the young state made it an annual legal holiday in 1885, using April 22nd to coincide with Morton's birthday.

  In the years following that first Arbor Day, Morton's idea spread beyond Nebraska with Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota and Ohio all proclaiming their own Arbor Days. Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day although the dates may vary in keeping with the local climate. (State Arbor Days) At the federal level, in 1970, President Richard Nixon proclaimed the last Friday in April as National Arbor Day. Arbor Day is also now celebrated in other countries including Australia. Variations are celebrated as 'Greening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India. Julius Sterling Morton would be proud. Sometimes one good idea can make a real difference.

  For the homeowner, Arbor Day is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection. Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. Walk around your neighbourhood. Are there any public areas where tree planting or tree maintenance might make a real difference to your community? Talk with your neighbours. Find out what their opinions are. And, oh yes, plant a tree.

  植樹節(jié)歷史(History of Arbor Day):

  Sun Yat-sen was the first person to realize the importance of forests and advocate afforestation in modern Chinese history.

  Shortly after the establishment of the Nanjing Government of the Republic of China, in which Sun Yat-sen was the interim president, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was established in May 1912, under which the Department of Mountains and Forests was set up to take charge of the national forestry administrative affairs; In November 1914, the first Forest Law in China's modern history was promulgated.

  In July 1915, at the initiative of Sun Yat-sen, the Beiyang government at that time officially ordered that the annual Tomb-sweeping Day be designated as the Tree Planting Day, and designated sites and selected tree species. Governments, institutions and schools at all levels of the country attended the ceremony and engaged in tree planting as scheduled. After being approved on July 21 of that year, the general order was complied with as scheduled throughout the country. Since then, China has had a Tree Planting Day.

  Mr. Sun Yat-sen died on March 12, 1925. In 1928, the National Government held a tree planting ceremony to commemorate the third anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's death. Later, in order to commemorate Mr. Sun Yat-sen, the 12th March of each year was designated as the Arbor Day.

  After the completion of the Northern Expedition in 1928, the Kuomintang government issued a general order to the whole country on April 7: "Later, the Qingming Tree Planting Day in the old calendar should be changed to commemorate the death of the Prime Minister." On February 9, 1929, the Ministry of Agriculture and Mines issued the "Interim Regulations on Tree Planting in the Provinces in Memory of the Death of the Prime Minister" in accordance with Article 16 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Mines. Yi Peiji, Minister of Agriculture and Mining of the Executive Yuan of the National Government, actively advocated afforestation in accordance with the instructions of Mr. Sun Yat-sen, and submitted it to the quasi-administrative Yuan and the National Government in February 1930. The week from March 9-15 was the "afforestation campaign propaganda week", and the planting ceremony was held on the anniversary of Mr. Sun Yat-sen's death on the 12th. In the northern region, in the early ten days of March, the cold has not disappeared and is not suitable for tree planting, so it is specially stipulated that the tree planting ceremony will still be held on March 12, and the afforestation publicity campaign will be held during the Qingming Festival. The Ministry also promulgated seven articles of the Outline of the Publicity Week of the Afforestation Campaign in all provinces, special cities and counties for the whole country to follow.

(Development course):

  1. Ancient tree-planting activities

  In ancient China, the state did not explicitly stipulate tree planting festivals in legal form, but the Chinese people have always attached importance to tree planting from ancient times to present. The Book of Rites says: "In the month of Mengchun, virtue is in the wood". As early as the time of the Five Emperors in BC, Shun set up "Yu Guan", one of the nine officials, to deal with the national forestry affairs.

  Qingming Festival is an important time for planting trees in ancient China. Before and after the Qingming Festival, the spring sun is shining and the spring rain is flying. The survival rate of planting seedlings is high and the growth rate is fast. Therefore, China has had the custom of planting trees during the Qingming Festival since ancient times.

  Ancient rulers have issued orders to plant trees many times. After Qin Shihuang unified China, he ordered to plant trees beside the road for shade. In 605 A.D., Emperor Yangdi of the Sui Dynasty ordered the river to be opened and the canal dug, and ordered the people to plant willow trees. Each living tree will be rewarded with a piece of fine silk. Taizu of the Song Dynasty divided the people into five classes according to the number of trees planted, and ordered those who cultivated wild land and planted mulberry dates not to pay the land rent; The officials who led the people to plant trees meritoriously can be promoted to one level. After the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty, the Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty promulgated Article 14 of the "System of Mulberry Production", stipulating that every man should plant 20 mulberry and jujube trees every year, or plant elm and willow instead according to the land conditions. At the same time, officials at all levels should be strictly supervised and implemented. In case of dereliction of duty or false report, crimes should be punished according to the law.

  In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the scale of tree planting has been further developed. In the implementation of a series of measures to revitalize social economy and culture, Zhu Yuanzhang, the Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, included afforestation. "For farmers who have five to ten mu of farmland, planting half an mu of mulberry, hemp and cotton is twice as much as planting more than ten mu". Those who use open land to plant trees will be tax-free, while those who do not complete the task of planting trees will be punished, and those who cut trees will be punished. In the early Qing Dynasty, local officials were also required to advise the people to plant trees and prohibit untimely logging, cattle and sheep trampling and theft. After the Opium War, a group of people with insight advocated reform. Emperor Guangxu ordered the development of agricultural and forestry undertakings and the establishment of agricultural and forestry education.

  Therefore, it seems that there was a good tradition of afforestation in ancient China.

  2. Tree planting in the Republic of China

  China's Tree Planting Day was originally scheduled for the Qingming Festival on April 5, and was changed to March 12 after the death of Mr. Sun Yat-sen. It was originally initiated by Lin Daoyang, a forester, to establish a tree planting festival in China.

  Sun Yat-sen was the first person to realize the importance of forests and advocate afforestation in modern Chinese history. In 1894, he emphasized in the Book of the Last Li Hongzhang that "agriculture should be promoted urgently and tree art should be emphasized". In 1915, at the initiative of Sun Yat-sen, the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce presented to the President of the People's Republic of China the annual Qingming Festival (before and after April 5 every year) as the Arbor Day. Governments, organs and schools at all levels of the country designated places and selected tree species to hold the Arbor Day ceremony and engage in tree planting activities. The resolution was approved on July 21 of the same year and officially implemented nationwide. Since then, China has officially had its own tree planting festival.

  On April 7, 1928, the government of the Republic of China issued a general order to the whole country: "Later, the Qingming Tree Planting Day of the old calendar should be changed to the tree planting ceremony commemorating the death of the Prime Minister". In February 1929, the Ministry of Agriculture and Mines, in order to follow the instructions of Sun Yat-sen and actively promote afforestation, submitted it to the quasi-administrative court in February 1930, stipulating that the week from March 9 to 15 was the "afforestation campaign publicity week", and held the planting ceremony on the anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's death on the 12th. In the north, the afforestation publicity campaign was extended to around the Tomb-sweeping Day because the cold weather did not disappear in early March and it was not suitable for planting trees. Later, the Executive Yuan passed the Measures for the Afforestation Campaign on the Arbor Day, which was implemented nationwide.

  3. New China Arbor Day

  After the founding of New China, the government gradually deepened its understanding of the importance of afforestation. On February 23, 1979, the sixth session of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National People's Congress adopted a resolution to designate March 12 as the Chinese Arbor Day on the proposal of the General Administration of Forestry. The significance of this resolution is to mobilize the people of all ethnic groups in the country to actively plant trees and accelerate the pace of greening the motherland and various forestry construction. The day of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death is designated as the Chinese Arbor Day. It is also to commemorate the great achievements of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and symbolize that Mr. Sun Yat-sen's unfulfilled wish will be realized and better realized in New China.

  On December 13, 1981, the Fourth Session of the Fifth National People's Congress deliberated and adopted the Resolution on Launching the National Compulsory Tree Planting Campaign. The resolution pointed out that, where conditions are available, citizens of the People's Republic of China who are over 11 years old, except the elderly, the weak, the sick and the disabled, should be obliged to plant 3 to 5 trees each year according to local conditions, or complete seedling cultivation, management and other greening tasks with corresponding labor. The resolution called on the people of all ethnic groups in the country to "work hard, plant trees every year, fool the public and remove mountains, and persevere". On the Tree Planting Day in 1982, the State Council promulgated the Measures for the Implementation of the National Compulsory Tree Planting Campaign. Deng Xiaoping took the lead in setting an example and planted the first tree of the voluntary tree planting movement on the Yuquan Mountain in Beijing.

(Festival logo):

  China's Arbor Day is a festival to promote afforestation and protect human ecological environment. Different from other festivals, Arbor Day requires organizations and units to organize related activities efficiently in order to better achieve the original intention of the establishment of Arbor Day. In February 1984, the third meeting of the National Greening Committee passed the current Chinese Arbor Day logo, in order to improve the influence and appeal of the Chinese Arbor Day, convenient for the public to participate in greening activities in an organized way.

  The emblem pattern in the tree, indicating our citizens to plant 3 to 5 trees, everyone hands on, greening the motherland. The inscription of "China Arbor Day" and "3.12" not only reminds people of the date of Arbor Day, but also embodies the perseverance of the Chinese people to plant trees every year for the benefit of mankind. Three broad-leaved trees and two conifers would mean "forest." The outer ring around the forest represents the virtuous cycle of the natural ecological system with the forest as the main body.

(Festival achievement):

  Over the years, people all over the country have earnestly fulfilled the obligation of planting trees as citizens. By 2008, 10.4 billion people on the Chinese mainland had voluntarily planted 49.2 billion trees.

  The nationwide voluntary tree-planting campaign has greatly promoted the improvement of ecological conditions in China. In 1981, China's forest area was 1.729 billion mu, with a standing wood stock of 10.26 billion cubic meters, and its forest coverage rate was 12 percent. By 2008, China's forest area had reached 2.62 billion mu, the stock of standing trees had reached 13.618 billion cubic meters, the forest coverage rate had increased to 18.21 percent, the per capita public green space in urban areas had increased to 6.52 square meters, and the total area of nature reserves in China had exceeded 100 million hectares. In addition, China has stepped up the implementation of six key forestry projects in the "Three Northern regions" and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including the construction of key shelterbelts, the conversion of farmland to forest and grassland, the protection of wild animals and plants and the construction of nature reserves, and the protection of natural forests. While the world's forest resources are decreasing, China has achieved sustained growth in forest resources. The improvement of forest vegetation not only beautifies homes, reduces the damage of soil erosion and wind sand to farmland, but also effectively improves the carbon storage capacity of forest ecosystem.

  In 2020, China completed 6.77 million hectares of afforestation, 8.37 million hectares of forest management, 2.83 million hectares of grassland cultivation and 2.09 million hectares of desertification control, according to the communique on the State of China's Land Greening 2020 released by the Office of the National Afforestation Commission.

(Ecological significance):

  The fundamental purpose of the establishment of the Chinese Arbor Day in China is to protect forests and increase the planting of trees.

  The growth of every big tree has a great positive effect on human society. Some foreign scholars have calculated the ecological value of trees: a 50-year-old tree produces about 31200 dollars of oxygen; The value of absorbing toxic gases and preventing air pollution is about US $62500; The value of increasing soil fertility is about 31200 dollars; The value of water conservation is 37500 dollars; The value of providing breeding places for birds and other animals is $31250; The protein produced is worth 2500 dollars. Excluding the value of flowers, fruits and wood, the total value was about 196000 dollars.

  Clusters of trees can play a good role in protecting the ecosystem. Compared with bare land, one hectare of forest land can store at least 3000 cubic meters of water. The water storage capacity of 10000 mu of forest is equivalent to a reservoir with a cost of more than 10 million yuan and a water storage capacity of 1 million cubic meters. Some experts predict that if the forest is lost on the earth, about 4.5 million biological species will no longer exist, 90% of the fresh water on the land will flow into the sea in vain, and mankind will face serious water shortage. The loss of forests will increase the wind speed in many areas by 60% to 80%, and hundreds of millions of people will be killed by wind disasters.

  In cities, street trees can also make beneficial contributions to human society. A tree can store the pollutants emitted by a car traveling 16 kilometers a year. Many trees can absorb harmful gases. For example, one hectare of Cryptomeria fortunei forest can absorb 60kg of sulfur dioxide every day. Others, such as ailanthus altissima, oleander, ginkgo biloba, wutong, can absorb sulfur dioxide. There are 34000 bacteria per cubic meter in the atmosphere of densely populated cities without greening, 10000 times that of forests. After planting a certain number of trees in the city, the amount of bacteria in the atmosphere can be reduced by about 80%. "Urban forest" can increase the air humidity. An adult tree can evaporate 400 kg of water a day, which can increase the air humidity, reduce the temperature of the city and slow down the heat island effect. Urban forest belts and hedges can reduce noise. The forest belt with a width of 30 meters can reduce noise by 6 to 8 decibels. Urban shelterbelts can slow down the wind speed, and their effective range is within 40 times of the tree height, of which the wind speed can be reduced by 50% within the range of 10-20 times.

  植樹節(jié)的意義(The meaning of Arbor Day):

  Afforestation can not only green and beautify our homes, but also play a role in expanding forest resources, preventing soil erosion, protecting farmland, regulating climate, promoting economic development and so on. It is a grand project beneficial to the present and the benefit of future generations. In order to protect forestry resources, beautify the environment and maintain ecological balance, many countries in the world have established Arbor Day according to their own actual conditions. With the continuous enhancement of people's environmental awareness, and actively involved in afforestation activities, our human living environment will be constantly improved.

  According to the United Nations, there are now more than 50 countries in the world have set up Arbor Day. Due to the national conditions and geographical location of different countries, Arbor Day in each country's address and time are not the same, such as Japan called "tree festival" and "green week"; Israel calls it "New Year's Day of Trees"; In Myanmar, it is called "Tree Planting Month"; In Yugoslavia it is called "Tree Planting Week"; In Iceland, it is called "Student Planting Day"; In India it is called "National Arbor Day"; In France it is called "National Tree Day"; In Canada it is called "Forest Week".
